Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said that the road network in Chhattisgarh will be upgraded and will match the quality of the American road network within the next two years.
Gadkari took part in the 83rd Annual Convention of the Indian Road Congress in Raipur and said that the plan involves an investment of Rs 20,000 crore in various projects, including the expanding the national highways to four-lane, and the construction of critical flyovers and single-lane roads in Raipur.
This move, as articulated by Chhatisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, underscores the vital role of strong road infrastructure in bolstering economic growth.
The funds will be utilised to enhance national highways across key routes such as Dhamtari to Jagdalpur, Raipur to Balodabazar-Sargarh, and Bilaspur to the Odisha border.
Other projects include flyovers at significant junctions in Raipur and vital road improvements, backed by Rs 900 crore from the Central Road Fund.
Gadkari also highlighted the need for sustainability, urging the use of eco-friendly innovations like bamboo crash barriers, which promise to replace steel and benefit local farmers by promoting bamboo usage.
He also said that cost-effective and high-quality projects should be adopted, ultimately driving employment and industry growth.
The Chief Minister reiterated the importance of reducing road accidents through improved engineering and safety measures, aligning with the broader vision of developing Chhattisgarh as a pivotal player in India’s progress.
Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao and Union Minister of State for Road Transport Ajay Tamta also took part in the event. .
