In a surprising turn of events, the domain JioHotstar.com, originally bought by a Delhi-based app developer with hopes of funding his Cambridge education, has now been sold to a sibling duo from the UAE. The website now hosts a message titled “Welcome to Our Journey of Seva,” highlighting the philanthropic efforts of Jainam and Jivika, two young siblings from Dubai. Their mission? Helping underprivileged children gain access to education and inspiring them to dream big.
The domain now opens with an inspiring message from the siblings: “Hello! We are Jainam and Jivika – siblings from Dubai, UAE, on a mission to make a difference. Even though we’re just kids, we believe that age is only a number when it comes to spreading kindness and positivity. Our recent journey began during our summer holidays when we left our home in Dubai for 50 unforgettable days in India. We had a purpose: to connect with children from various backgrounds, share our love for learning, teach skills for studying and setting goals, and inspire them to dream big.”
This update has left many netizens curious, especially those who were following the story of the domain’s original owner — a Delhi-based tech enthusiast. Earlier this year, the developer bought JioHotstar.com, speculating a potential merger between Reliance Industries and Disney+ Hotstar. Inspired by Reliance’s past acquisitions, like the rebranding of Saavn to JioSaavn, he anticipated that the merger might lead to a new “JioHotstar” branding. He believed that his domain could play a key role in this rebranding, and he hoped to sell it to Reliance in exchange for funding his Cambridge studies, which required about Rs 1 crore.
The developer posted a letter on the site addressed to Reliance Industries, proposing the sale of the domain for his education fund. However, Reliance responded with a firm rejection, and instead of engaging in negotiations, the company threatened legal action against the developer for trademark infringement. The rejection prompted the developer to take down his letter and reconsider his approach.
Shortly after, the developer shared a message on social media, revealing that his parents were deeply concerned about the media attention the domain saga had garnered. In a lighthearted tone, he wrote, “My parents read the news and they are worried, actually super super worried. Itna bhi viral nhi hona tha yaar. Shayad legal battle phir bhi handle ho jaye, bhai saab maa baap ka samjhana is so difficult. Good Kalesh today.”
After the developer’s withdrawal, the domain’s shift to the UAE-based sibling duo has sparked widespread curiosity. While the techie’s Cambridge dreams seem to have taken a backseat, Jainam and Jivika’s new mission has given JioHotstar.com an unexpected transformation from a tech story to one of service and inspiration.
